The number of exchange-traded fund listings on SIX Swiss Exchange has surpassed 1000.

Five new ETFs from UBS have taken SIX Swiss Exchange through the 1000th listing milestone.

The Zurich-based exchange has reached the milestone 15 years after the first ETF was listed on the exchange.

Five new funds from Switzerland-based asset manager UBS have taken SIX Swiss over the milestone.

The new UBS funds include four passive equity trackers and one smart beta product. The four passive ETFs are linked to domestic Swiss indices, including the SPI, SLI, SMI and SMIM, while the smart beta ETF provides access to a multi asset portfolio of equities, bonds, commodities and cash with a target portfolio volatility of 7%.

Since SIX Swiss unveiled its dedicated ETF segment in 2000 the number of products has grown steadily. Last year proved to be particularly strong, with 162 new products listed, including 50 in the final quarter alone.

Currently, the ETF segment comprises 18 providers and 23 official market makers.  The largest ETF providers on the exchange, in terms of number of product listings, are UBS, ComStage, iShares, Lyxor and db X-trackers.

Alongside the increase in listings has been a steady uptrend in trading. In 2014 the exchange saw CHF 90.8 billion of trading volume in ETFs, the fourth quarter once again standing out with CHF 24 billion of turnover, representing growth of 23% on the third quarter, and 242,818 ETF transactions,  equating to 27% of the year’s total.

The average ETF transaction size in 2014 was CHF 99,620, higher than in both the previous years.
