Assets tracking Scientific Beta indices top $25bn

ERI Scientific Beta rolls out multi-strategy smart beta indices

Smart beta index provider ERI Scientific Beta has announced that assets tracking its indices reached $25 billion at the end of December 2017, up substantially from 30 June 2017 when assets under replication amounted to $16bn. Professor Noël Amenc, CEO of Scientific Beta, said, “[The indices] remain based on the double diversification of factor and specific risks, and do not sacrifice the latter in favour of a concentrated portfolio optimised in-sample.”



Vanguard unveils suite of actively managed factor ETFs in US

Vanguard has launched six new factor-based ETFs — the firm’s first actively managed ETFs in the US — on Cboe ETF Marketplace. The suite consists of five single factor funds, targeting exposure to the minimum volatility, value, momentum, liquidity, and quality factors, and a multi-factor approach, each within the US equities universe. Vanguard CEO Tim Buckley, commented, “The newly launched factor funds represent a differentiated approach – disciplined, rules-based, targeted exposure to factors – along with Vanguard’s low costs.”

ETFs attract €96.6 billion net inflows in January, finds Amundi

Global ETF flows continued their positive trend in January 2018, with an increase of €96.6 billion, according to data from European ETF provider Amundi. The US market gained most of the inflows, at €78.6bn, against €13.2bn for the European market. Research by EY suggests that ETF assets have the potential to hit $7.6 trillion by the end of 2020.



Ossiam launches smart beta fixed income ETF

Ossiam has launched the Ossiam Solactive Moody’s Analytics IG EUR Select Credit ETF (MOOC FP) on Euronext Paris. This new smart beta fixed income ETF invests in a portfolio of euro-denominated investment grade corporate bonds, seeking to maximise total return while maintaining a low credit risk profile. Bruno Poulin, CEO of Ossiam, said, “The Ossiam investment-grade credit strategy is aimed at long-term investors prioritising stable returns from high quality bonds issued by companies with strong business models in debt capital markets.”

Lyxor to bring gender equality ETF to London Stock Exchange

Lyxor is planning a cross-listing of the Lyxor Gender Equality ETF, Europe’s first ETF to focus on companies leading the field in gender equality, on London Stock Exchange. The fund, which tracks 150 of the highest-ranked stocks based on work-related gender equality characteristics, will trade in pounds sterling under the ticker HERS LN.



BlackRock turns active iShares ETF passive

iShares turns an active ETF passive

BlackRock has transitioned its iShares Edge US Fixed Income Balanced Risk ETF (FIBR US) from an actively managed fund to an index-based fund, adopting the Bloomberg Barclays US Fixed Income Balanced Risk Index as its underlying reference. The move brings FIBR into alignment with the other iShares Edge ETFs, which are all index-based, smart-beta funds.



First Trust Global Portfolios’ ETF suite reaches $600m AUM
