KraneShares introduces China ‘One Belt One Road’ ETF

KraneShares has launched the KraneShares MSCI One Belt One Road ETF (NYSE Arca: OBOR) which invests in strategic companies from countries participating in China’s One Belt One Road initiative, an infrastructure-focused long-term modernization of the original Silk Road trading routes. Jonathan Krane, CEO at KraneShares, commented: “The OBOR initiative will receive trillions of dollars of investment over the next decade and should increase the economies and trade of both China and the participating nations.”

CICC to acquire majority stake in KraneShares

China International Capital Corporation (CICC) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a 50.1% majority stake in Krane Funds Advisors (KraneShares), a US asset management firm best known for its China focused ETFs. Mingjian Bi, acting chairman and CEO of CICC, said: “We are excited to have this opportunity to significantly grow KraneShares and the CICC business in the United States and globally.”

KraneShares, a New York-based exchange-traded fund provider focused on China, has unveiled its latest ETF: the KraneShares FTSE Emerging Markets Plus ETF (BATS:KEMP). Listed on BATS Exchange, the new ETF is linked to the newly launched FTSE Emerging incl China Overseas non-R/QFII GDP Weighted Index. The index is weighted by gross domestic product (GDP) and includes China A-Shares and China N-Shares. It has an overweight to China (48% total weight) and India (17% total weight) – a 23% and 5% higher allocation than the FTSE Emerging Index, respectively.

FTSE introduces new GDP weighted China index

FTSE Group has expanded its range of GDP weighted indices with the introduction of the FTSE Emerging incl. China Overseas non-R/QFII GDP Weighted Index. The new index is composed of emerging markets and Chinese equities including China A-shares, N-shares and S-chips, which are weighted by GDP rather than market capitalisation. Commenting, Mark Makepeace, Chief Executive, FTSE Group, said: “The inclusion of mainland Chinese stocks (A-shares) in international portfolios will have a sizable impact in the future, and FTSE remains committed to helping market participants prepare for this change through the development of new benchmarks.”

Source, one of Europe’s largest exchange-traded fund (ETF) issuers, has listed a physically replicated Chinese A-shares ETF on the London Stock Exchange. KraneShares, which only last month made its exchange-traded fund (ETF) debut, has launched its second new fund: the KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB). The fund, which has been listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, provides exposure to Chinese internet and internet-related companies. Brendan Ahern, Managing Director of KraneShares, said: “We see two powerful demographic trends driving China’s internet sector: since 2000, internet spending by urban Chinese has increased 14% annually, and China’s rural population continues to migrate to urban areas, further fueling internet usage.”

KraneShares, a newly launched provider of China-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs), has unveiled its debut fund, the KraneShares CSI China Five-Year Plan ETF (KFYP). The NYSE Arca-listed ETF provides exposure to China via the CSI Overseas China Five-Year Plan Index, an index which focuses on companies in the industries prioritised in China’s latest ‘Five-Year Plan’.
