First Trust Portfolios Canada is planning to change the name and underlying index of the First Trust AlphaDEX US Dividend ETF (CAD-Hedged) (TSX: FUD), a fund which gives investors exposure to US large-cap equities that pay higher-than-average dividends.

Deutsche to cross-list core & corporate bond ETFs to LSE

Deutsche Asset Management is planning to cross-list four ETFs, two corporate bond and two low-cost ‘core’ equity funds, on London Stock Exchange. Simon Klein, head of passive distribution, EMEA and APAC, Deutsche Asset Management, says the cross-listings “expand the opportunities for investors in ETF format” and help “make these funds available to as wide an audience as possible”.



European ETF industry set for record growth despite reduced August flows

ETF assets reach new record high in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan)

Europe-listed ETFs are on track to set a new record for asset under management growth in a calendar year, according to the August edition of Lyxor’s monthly ETF barometer report. As of the end of August 2017, year-to-date (YTD) net inflows in the region amount to €64 billion, significantly above the prior YTD record of €51bn recorded in 2015, despite August bringing the lowest flows into equity ETFs since September 2016.

These bonds provide significantly higher yields than those offered by developed markets bonds, both in nominal terms and in real terms. While higher yields often mean greater credit risk, local inflation levels can be a greater contributor to the nominal yields of emerging markets bonds.

Franklin Templeton Investments has launched two new actively managed municipal bond ETFs, the Franklin Liberty Intermediate Municipal Opportunities ETF (NYSE Arca: FLMI) and Franklin Liberty Municipal Bond ETF (NYSE Arca: FLMB). The world’s largest high-yield bond ETF has come in for some criticism from a bond mutual fund manager at London and Edinburgh-based investment manager Kames Capital. Stephen Baines, co-manager of the Kames Short Dated High Yield Global Bond Fund, says the performance of the iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (NYSE Arca: HYG), which has returned 70.8%, or 5.5% per annum, over in the ten years since its launch, “looks somewhat disappointing” when compared to the broad high-yield market.



BlackRock reports near-record flows into bond ETFs during Q2 2017

US-listed ETFs gather $300bn net inflows YTD

The global bond ETF industry attracted $43.3 billion of net inflows in Q2 2017, just short of the industry record of $44.5bn set in Q1 2017, according to BlackRock’s Q2 Global ETF industry report. Stephen Cohen, head of fixed income beta at BlackRock, writes that the firm’s own ETF arm – iShares – captured $21.0bn (or 48.5%) of these net new assets with flows “driven by investor appetite for investment grade credit, emerging market debt and government bond funds.”
