Global X launches S&P 500 Catholic Values ETF

Inspire adds US large cap ETF to biblical values suite

US-based exchange-traded fund provider Global X Funds has launched a new Catholic values-based ETF based on the S&P 500 Index. The Global X S&P 500 Catholic Values Index ETF (Nasdaq: CATH) will track the S&P 500 Catholic Values Index, which invests in US large cap companies whose business practices adhere to the Socially Responsible Investment Guidelines as outlined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The index’s methodology screens out companies with revenue exposure to operations that do not meet Catholic values by analysing each firm’s financial statements on a quarterly review basis. These activities include abortion, adult entertainment, biological and chemical weapons, contraception, nuclear weapons, stem cell activity, and the use of child labour.

JP Morgan Asset Management has announced it has taken a minority stake in exchange-traded fund provider Global X Management Company as it looks to expand and deepen its participation in the ETF industry. Jed Laskowitz, Co-Head of Global Investment Management Solutions for JP Morgan Asset Management, commented: “Investing in Global X augments our ETF strategy by expanding and deepening our participation in this fast-growing industry. Global X Funds switches to MSCI for Greece ETF

Global X Funds, a New York based sponsor of exchange traded funds, has announced that the Global X FTSE Greece 20 ETF (NYSE Arca: GREK) will begin tracking the MSCI All Greece Select 25/50 Index as of 1 March 2016. The fund, which currently tracks the FTSE/ATHEX Custom Capped Index, will subsequently change its name to the Global X MSCI Greece ETF.

Global X Funds, the New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds, has announced that the Global X GURU Index ETF (NYSE Arca: GURU) has been awarded a five-star Morningstar rating. The accolade is reflective of the fund’s impressive risk-adjusted performance in relation to fee level since its inception on 4 June 2012. During the period between the fund’s launch and 31 August 2015, the Global X GURU Index ETF had a total return of 77.5%, or 23.6% per annum. During the same period, the S&P 500 returned a total of 46.6%.

S&P Dow Jones Indices has launched the S&P 500 Catholic Values Index which has been designed to adhere to the socially responsible investment guidelines of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. “Sustainable issues represent one of the most important cost and revenue drivers in the modern corporate world,” said Julia Kochetygova, Head of Sustainability Indices at S&P Dow Jones Indices. “By selecting stocks that comply with the US CCB, the S&P 500 Catholic Values Index aims to include companies with resilient business profiles by addressing the ethical challenges that can make a stronger investment case.” The index has been licensed to ETF provider Global X Funds.



Greece ETF slumps as Athens Stock Exchange remains closed

The Global X FTSE Greece 20 ETF (GREK), the only pure-play Greece-focussed ETF, lost 19% of its value during early trading on Monday on the NYSE Arca. The ETF, which tracks the FTSE-ATHEX Custom Capped Index, slumped as investors came to terms with an official Greek default, the first ever default on an IMF loan from a Western country. Sovereign borrowing costs, especially the 2-year rate, soared as the near-term future of the Hellenic economy looked increasingly dire. Several key markets around the world were also affected, with Euro Stoxx 50 ETFs also taking a hit.
