Global X switches underlying index for Portugal ETF

New York based Global X Funds has announced that, as of 6 December 2016, the Global X FTSE Portugal 20 ETF (NYSE: PGAL) will track the MSCI All Portugal Plus 25/50 Index. Compared with the fund’s previous index, the FTSE Portugal 20 Index, the new index will track 21 constituents instead of 20. The fund will have broadly similar sector exposures under the new index but will increase the weight of the top two constituents, Galp Energia, to 23.2%; and EDP Energias De Portugal, to 21.5%.

Global X Funds has launched the Global X MSCI SuperDividend EAFE ETF (Nasdaq: EFAS), offering equal-weight exposure to the performance of 50 firms listed in either Europe, Australia or the Far East with the highest dividend yields. The fund is the seventh ETF in Global X’s ‘SuperDividend’ suite. Nasdaq captures 35% of US ETP listings and switches in Q3 2016

Nasdaq Stock Market hosted 24 new exchange-traded product listings and one switch in the third quarter of 2016, representing 35% of new ETP listings and switches across all US exchanges. The listing and switching activity brings Nasdaq’s total ETP listings to 295. JP Morgan introduces unconstrained fixed income ETF

JP Morgan Asset Management has introduced its first alternative and actively managed exchange-traded fund. The JP Morgan Diversified Alternatives ETF (NYSE: JPHF) provides investors with diversified exposure to hedge fund strategies including equity long/short, event driven and global macro strategies. Robert Deutsch, Head of ETFs for JP Morgan Asset Management, commented: “In the past, alternative investments have been an exclusive option only accessible by a small portion of investors; however, JPHF now makes these investment vehicles available to a wider array of investors.”

iShares launches four global thematic ETFs

BlackRock has unveiled a suite of thematic iShares exchange-traded funds that are designed to profit from four key global ‘megatrends’: ageing populations, healthcare innovation, robotics & automation and digitalisation. Commenting on the launch Tom Fekete, Head of Product for iShares EMEA at BlackRock, said: “Megatrends are affecting the way we live and work. These ETFs look to capture the opportunities created by long-term structural trends, by identifying the companies most aligned to them. New York-based ETF provider Global X Funds has launched the Global X Conscious Companies ETF (NASDAQ: KRMA) which draws on dozens of sources to identify companies that have demonstrated a long term focus on creating positive outcomes for a variety of stakeholders, including employees, customers, communities, suppliers, and stock and debt holders. Alex Ashby, Director of Product Development at Global X, commented in a statement: “Investors are increasingly looking at socially responsible investing not only as a values-driven decision, but also as one that can potentially lead to better long term returns.”



ERI SciBeta indices surpass $10bn in tracking assets

ERI Scientific Beta counters Mercer’s criticism of factor investing

Assets tracking the indices of smart beta index provider ERI Scientific Beta, a commercial venture of EDHEC Risk Institute, has reached the $10bn milestone. Part of these tracking assets can be attributed to a range of exchange-traded funds from providers such as Morgan Stanley, ETF Securities, Amundi and Global X Funds. Noël Amenc, CEO of ERI Scientific Beta, commented in a statement: “ERI Scientific Beta’s approach to smart beta index provision is based on three guiding principles: more academic rigour, more transparency, and less cost. Desjardins launches international multifactor controlled volatility ETF

All four smart beta exchange-traded funds from New York-based ETF provider Global X Funds have surpassed their market cap-weighted benchmarks one year after their initial launches. The ETFs which provide core multi-factor (value, size, momentum and volatility) equity exposure to the US, Europe, Japan, and Asia ex-Japan through tracking EDHEC-Risk Institute’s Scientific Beta Indices, all outperformed their benchmarks on both return and risk metrics.
