LSE reports October ETF trading volume up 3%

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has reported that total on-exchange value traded for ETFs in October 2017 was £27 billion through 290k trades, an increase of 3% compared to October 2016. The average order book trade size for ETFs was £38k during the month.

The LSE now lists 1,345 ETFs from 25 issuers.

Total on-exchange value traded year-to-date is £268bn through 3 million trades, up 5% compared to the same period in 2016.

There were 15 new ETFs listed in on the LSE during October, bringing the total number of listings to 1,345 across 25 issuers. This year thus far has seen the first ETFs listed on the LSE from Fidelity, Franklin Templeton and GF International. Of the 126 new listing so far in 2017, 76 are equity products, 41 are fixed income products and 9 are commodity products.

The asset class breakdown of all ETFs listed on the LSE shows that 56% give exposure to equities, 22% to commodities, 17% to fixed income and 5% to specialty products.

The top three most actively on-book traded ETFs during the month were the iShares Core FTSE 100 UCITS ETF (ISF LN), the iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (CSPX LN) and the Vanguard S&P 500 UCITS ETF (VUSD LN).

The three most actively on-book traded ETPs during October were the Source Physical Gold P-ETC (SGLD LN), the ETFS Physical Gold (PHAU LN) and the Gold Bullion Securities (GBS LN).
