London Stock Exchange sees 12 new ETP listings during May

Five new ETFs and seven new ETNs were listed on London Stock Exchange in May 2017 bringing the total number of ETFs and ETPs listed on the exchange to 903 and 457 respectively.

Issuers to launch ETFs/ETPs on the London market during May included Societe Generale, iShares, PowerShares, UBS and Lyxor.

Societe Generale brought seven short and leveraged ETPs to the market. These included the SG WTI Oil x3 Daily Short and SG WTI Oil x3 Daily Long, tracking the leveraged WTI oil futures indices; the SG Gold x3 Daily Short and SG Gold x3 Daily Long, tracking leveraged gold futures indices; as well as three short and leveraged equity ETPs tracking leveraged FTSE 100 indexes.

iShares expanded its offering through listing two equity ETFs – the iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF and iShares MSCI Europe Mid Cap UCITS ETF – providing exposure to global and European stock markets, respectively.

PowerShares launched the PowerShares S&P 500 QVM UCITS ETF, a smart beta ETF which tracks the performance of stocks within the S&P 500 with the highest exposure to quality, value and momentum investment factors.

UBS also brought a smart beta ETF to market with the launch of the UBS ETF MSCI USA Select Factor Mix UCITS ETF which tracks the performance of large to small cap stocks, weighted by their exposure to six long-term risk factors: momentum, value, shareholder yield, quality, volatility and size.

Lyxor listed a corporate fixed income product, the Lyxor $ Floating Rate Note UCITS ETF, offering bond investors exposure to the US dollar-denominated corporate market with protection from rising interest rates.

Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs and other ETPs in May 2017 was £29.4 billion, up by 52% compared to May 2016. Total on-exchange value traded for ETFs and other ETPs year-to-date was £136.3bn, up 16% compared to 2016.
