Emerging markets (EM) have been on a tear, originally lifted from the doldrums in early 2016 by China stimulus, but now self-sustaining with a synchronized economic recovery across emerging markets and Europe. Yes, the US has been hiking rates, but so far the EM recovery has remained durable despite bouts of dollar strength and rising treasury yields.

US equity ETFs boosted as S&P 500 hits all-time high

US large-cap equity ETFs have recorded gains recently as the S&P 500 Index hit intraday- and closing-high records on 25 July 2017. In a week where 180 of the index’s constituents are reporting their second-quarter results, several companies have delivered better-than-expected earnings, pushing the index to 2,477.08 at the close. ETFs tracking the index, such as the $19.3bn iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (LON: CSPX), have added around 10.7% so far in 2017.

Lyxor has launched two new ETFs, the Lyxor FTSE USA Core Infrastructure Capped UCITS ETF (LON: BILD) and the Lyxor FTSE Developed Europe Core Infrastructure Capped UCITS ETF (LON: MAKE), tracking companies from the US and European infrastructure sectors respectively. According to Lyxor, the ETFs may offer investors a steady source of income which is less sensitive to short-term market cycles and hedged against inflation.

Ossiam has reported that the Ossiam Shiller Barclays CAPE US Sector Value UCITS ETF (LON: UCAP) passed the $1 billion AUM milestone in June. The ETF uses the cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings (CAPE) ratio, developed jointly by Barclays and Nobel Prize-winning economist Professor Robert Shiller, as a valuation driver in a sector rotational strategy.
