Ossiam launches world’s first smart beta risk-weighted commodity ETF

Columbia Threadneedle launches equity income smart beta ETFs

Ossiam, a provider of smart beta exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and affiliate of Natixis Global Asset Management, has listed the world’s first risk-weighted commodity ETF, the Ossiam Risk Weighted Enhanced Commodity ex. Grains TR UCITS ETF (CRWU). The fund is fully UCITS compliant and provides investors with systematic long-only exposure to a diversified basket of 20 commodities futures contracts (excluding grains) with reduced volatility. It has been listed on the London Stock Exchange, Borsa Italiana, NYSE Euronext Paris and Xetra.

MSCI has unveiled the MSCI EM Beyond BRIC Index. The index is composed of 17 emerging market countries and excludes the so-called BRIC countries which currently represent over 40% of the parent MSCI Emerging Markets Index. Deborah Yang, Head of the MSCI Index Business in EMEA & India, said: “We have launched the MSCI EM Beyond BRIC Index in response to client demand and believe it offers a new way to track and evaluate the emerging markets opportunity set for those wishing to invest in countries outside the BRIC region.”

SPDR ETFs, the exchange-traded funds (ETF) platform of State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), has listed three new short-duration bond ETFs on the London Stock Exchange and Deutsche Börse. The funds, which are physically-backed, provide exposure to fixed income securities at the short end of the maturity curve and could be useful for investors looking to reduce interest-rate risk.

Amundi launches UK SRI equity ETF

Clients of Barclays Stockbrokers are continuing to favour UK-focused ETFs, according to new analysis from the UK’s largest execution-only retail broker. Data for August 2013 revealed the iShares FTSE 100 UCITS ETF (Inc) (ISF) was the most traded ETF by clients of the broker for the month. The fund has now been the top purchased ETF by Barclays clients for fourteen weeks in a row. The data also revealed the UK was a popular region among investors, with 27% of all client ETF purchases being focused on the UK.

PowerShares Canada cuts fee on senior loan ETF as competition heats up

PowerShares Canada has reduced the management fee on its TSX-listed PowerShares Senior Loan (CAD Hedged) Index ETF (BKL). The move appears to be a direct response to the launch of a competing fund from First Trust. The fee on the PowerShares fund, which was introduced in April 2012, has been cut by 0.10% to 0.80%. This makes it marginally cheaper than the recently launched First Trust Senior Loan ETF (CAD-Hedged) (FSL), which debuted on the exchange in August and charges 0.85%.


United States Commodity Funds cross-lists ETFs on Mexican Stock Exchange

United States Commodity Funds, a US-based provider of commodity-focused exchange-traded funds, has cross-listed five products on the Mexican Stock Exchange, or Bolsa Mexicana de Valores. They are the United States Oil Fund (USO), the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG), the United States 12 Month Oil Fund (USL), the United States Gasoline Fund (UGA) and the United States Commodity Index Fund (USCI).

Goldman Sachs, Visa and Nike are to join the Dow Jones Industrial Average, arguably the world’s most famous stock market gauge. They will replace Bank of America, Hewlett-Packard and Alcoa after the close of trading on Friday, 20th September. A number of exchange-traded funds listed around the world will be affected by the change, the largest being the NYSE Arca-listed SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (DIA), which has more than $11 billion in assets under management.

Emerging Global Advisors’ consumer-focused emerging markets ETF reaches three-year milestone

Emerging Global Advisors’ consumer-focused emerging markets exchange-traded fund (ETF), the EGShares Emerging Markets Consumer ETF (ECON), is to celebrate its third anniversary this month. The fund, which launched on the NYSE in September 2010, is linked to the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Consumer Titans 30 Index and has more than $1 billion in assets under management, making it Emerging Global Advisors’ largest fund.
