Europe-listed ETFs gather €7.8bn in July, finds Morningstar

Europe-listed ETFs saw net inflows of €7.8 billion in July 2017, bringing the total for 2017 to €65bn, according to data from Morningstar. While flows into Europe-listed equity ETFs posted a solid reading of €4.9bn, fixed income ETFs saw tepid demand during the month, recording flows of just €1.6bn, the second lowest monthly flows this year.

Euronext launches European family-run business index

Morningstar has teamed up with Euronext to launch two new indices, the Morningstar Eurozone 50 Index and the Morningstar Developed Markets Europe 100 Index, providing exposure to large-cap European equities. The launch follows the announcement of a strategic agreement between Euronext and Morningstar in March 2017.

Assets in smart beta equity ETFs/ETPs reach new record

Investment research firm Morningstar has published the latest instalment of its ETF Managed Portfolios Landscape Report. The report, which covers the first quarter of 2017 and tracks 950 strategies from 169 US-based firms, found that total assets in these strategies increased a whopping 17.6% over this period to $99.7 billion.

ETF provider VanEck Vectors has expanded its presence in Europe with the cross listing of four ETFs on the Borsa Italiana. Philipp Schlegel, international business development at VanEck, said: “Within recent years, Borsa Italiana has recorded a significant rise in average daily ETF trades on the Italian stock exchange. ANZ ETFS Management has launched the ANZ ETFS Morningstar Global Technology ETF (ASX: TECH), the first Australia-listed ETF to give investors exposure to global technology stocks. The underlying Morningstar Developed Markets Technology Moat Focus Index uses uses the research house’s “Wide Moat” methodology to identify global technology companies that have a competitive advantage which Morningstar believes will endure for at least ten years.
